What I do

A chain built for your song

01 — Edit

Edit

The unglamorous work that makes everything after it easier. Tightened drums, comped takes, tuned vocals, cleaned noise — a session that's ready to actually mix.

02 — Mix

Mix

Balance, tone, depth, and impact. Every element sitting where it belongs — from the weight of the kick to the top of the cymbals — with the vocal never buried.

03 — Master

Master

Final loudness and polish, translated to hit right on phones, cars, and club systems alike — competitive level without crushing the life out of the track.

Working together

Before you send

A clean session in, a clear delivery out. Expand whatever you need.

Sending your tracks

A well-prepped, well-labelled session gets you a better mix in less time. Here's how to export and send.

File format+

Send 44.1kHz / 24-bit WAV files — mono sources as mono, stereo sources as stereo. Higher rates (e.g. 48kHz / 32-bit) are fine too; just tell me what you're sending. Reference mixes and demos can be mp3.

Exporting+

Export every track from bar 1 to the end of the song so they line up perfectly on import. Watch any delay or reverb tails decaying at the end — make sure nothing gets truncated.

Naming your tracks+

Name every track by what it contains — KICK, SNARE, MAIN VOX, DUB VOX, SCREAM VOX, SYNTH 1, GTR L, GTR R, REFERENCE MIX. Avoid names like "Track01" or "Steve"; they cost time at my end.

Sending the files+

Package everything into a .ZIP or .RAR, upload to Dropbox or WeTransfer, and email me the link. Please avoid Google Drive — it breaks large sessions into pieces and causes problems.

Include a short .txt read-me with anything I should know: sample rate and bit depth if it isn't 44.1/24, plus tempo and time signatures (even when they're embedded in MIDI).

Drums & DIs+

Sending drum MIDI? Include a MIDI map of which note triggered which sound — no two drum instruments map the same — plus a drums-only bounce for accuracy.

Baked-in guitar and bass tones (Axe-Fx, Kemper, mic'd cab) are fine and often useful, but send a raw DI of each where you can, in case a tone needs reshaping to fit the mix. Send tracks dry unless an effect is essential to the sound, and note any printed processing in the read-me.

What you get back

Every project is delivered ready for release, in whatever formats you need.

Standard deliverable+

You'll always get a 44.1kHz / 24-bit WAV of the finished mix and master. Pressing CDs? I'll provide 44.1/16 WAVs. For an album, I can supply a DDP of the sequenced record to go straight to the pressing plant.

Alternative versions+

Just ask, and I'll provide any of:

  • Instrumental (no vocals)
  • Acapella (vocals only)
  • TV mix (no lead vocals)
  • Vocals-up mix (+1dB, for radio)
  • Group stereo stems (drums, bass, guitars, keys, FX, vocals…)
  • Full stems with processing, for remixing or Atmos*

*Full stems exclude my personal drum samples, which remain my intellectual property.

Delivery & timing+

You'll receive an email with a download link and a description of what's included. Files come down after 30 days, so please grab them promptly.

Crediting+

If you're happy with the work, please credit it as:

Mixed and Mastered by Simon Pettiford at Annexe Audio

If the master was done elsewhere, "Mixed by" is right for me, with the mastering engineer credited separately. If I wrote any parts for you (e.g. MIDI drums), please add me to the writing credits:

Simon Pettiford

About

The service

Hello, I'm Simon, founder of Annexe Audio, formerly Darkened Dreams Studios. I started this service in Little Rock, Arkansas, USA in 2014, and am now based in the UK. I have engineered, co-produced, mixed and mastered heavy and alternative records, alongside my own ambient and electronic projects, but I'm down to work on any genre!

Music is my passion; I've been invested in it from the age of 5. I really care about everything I work on and want your satisfaction. Previous clients have often said they have enjoyed working with me because of my engagement with their music and how I almost become another member of the band without taking away from their artistic vision or intent.

My background runs deep on the technical side: REAPER workflows, custom scripting, and calibrated monitoring so what I hear is what you get on your end. The approach is always the same — start from the song, then build the processing around it. Nothing here runs on autopilot. Every project is unique and treated as such.

If your record needs to hit hard and stay clear, that's the whole job!
